Everton fans baffled as Unsworth picks team without recognised striker

A lot of the criticism that Everton have faced in this early stage of the season is the fact that they failed to sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

The club spent more than £100m on new signings in the summer, but the sale of Lukaku to Manchester United has damaged them.

In nine Premier League games, the Toffees won just two, which resulted in the sacking of manager Ronald Koeman.

David Unsworth has been given the reins on a temporary basis, but the Under-23s coach has overseen back-to-back defeats so far.

This evening, Everton play a must-win game against Lyon in France in an attempt to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds of the Europa League alive.

The lineup for the group clash has been announced, and Unsworth has opted against starting a recognised striker.

Instead, the interim coach has gone for a 4-3-3 system, with Ademola Lookman expected to be the focal point of attack.

The selection has not impressed Everton fans.
