Everton announced the departure of Gareth Barry on Tuesday evening, and the supporters have been sending their well-wishes on social media.

The midfielder has joined West Bromwich Albion on an initial one-year deal, presumably due to his desire to play regularly this season.

Barry was always expected to fight for his place at Goodison Park during the 2017-18 campaign following the recent arrival of Davy Klaassen and rumoured incoming Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Under manager Ronald Koeman last season, the 36-year-old started 23 Premier League games and came off the bench in a further 10.

He was also named Everton's Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season at the end of the campaign.

During his time at Everton, which spanned four years, Barry made 154 appearances and scored five goals.

Before moving to the blue half of Merseyside, the midfielder spent 11 years at Aston Villa and five at Manchester City.

After Barry finalised his switch to The Hawthorns, Everton supporters expressed their sadness in him leaving.
