Everton fans were on cloud nine after witnessing their team earn a 3-0 win over Sunderland in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, but that joy soon turned to dread.
The Merseyside outfit learned that they will have to face five-time winners Chelsea in the next phase of the competition.
There was a feeling of deflation among the Everton faithful, probably because Ronald Koeman’s side have had a tough start to the season.
Last night’s victory over Sunderland provided a welcome boost following a run of three straight Premier League defeats.
The Toffees also struggled in their opening Europa League encounter when they lost 3-0 to Atalanta.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have been unbeaten since their 3-2 defeat to Burnley on the first weekend of the season, winning five and drawing one.
The tie was made even harder for Everton when it was revealed that they would be taking on the West London outfit at Stamford Bridge rather than on home soil.
It quickly became clear that the majority of fans have accepted defeat already.
It was fun while it lasted lads
