Everton supporters vented their frustration with Ross Barkley on Twitter after a lacklustre showing against Chelsea at Goodison Park on Sunday.
The 23-year-old, who faces being sold this summer if he does not sign a new contract, has struggled for consistency throughout the campaign.
Barkley has held plenty of promise for a number of years, but he is yet to take that step up, despite being part of the senior fold since 2013.
It was a disappointing day overall for Everton as they were beaten 3-0 by Premier League title contenders Chelsea, but Barkley was singled out.
Manager Ronald Koeman played the Merseyside-born footballer in a deeper midfield role alongside youngster Tom Davies, but only one of them shone.
Davies put in a performance that most fans expect from Barkley on a regular basis, while his teammate failed to make an impact.
The England international’s display has convinced some fans that Everton will not suffer if Barkley is sold at the end of the season.
Made my mind up now – time to cash in on Barkley #efc

Today ended the debate about Ross Barkley, he cannot play in centre midfield at #EFC.

Barkley's strategy to not show up in big games until he gets a contract he wants is an unorthodox bargaining strategy to say the least. #EFC

Take Barkley and DCL off, bring on Mirallas and Lookman. Would be nice if Barkley turned up against a top side one day. #EFC

The quicker we don't have Barkley in our team, the better. Everything he does is wrong. It's painful. #EFC

If only Barkley showed half the industry that Davies brings the team. Davies seems to have spent half the game winning the ball back. #efc
