Everton announced on their official club website on Monday that they had signed former Southampton defender Cuco Martina on a free transfer.

The Curacao international moves to Goodison Park on a three-year deal after being released by Saints at the end of the season, and he will provide competition and cover for Seamus Coleman and Mason Holgate at right-back.

Toffees manager Ronald Koeman signed the 27-year-old for the south coast outfit during his spell at St Mary’s and the full-back’s stand-out moment when he scored a spectacular goal in a win against Arsenal.

Martina becomes the seventh first team addition this summer after Davy Klaassen, Jordan Pickford, Henry Onyekuru, Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramirez and Michael Keane.

Everton supporters were quick to have their say on the arrival of the Curacao captain via social media, and while some believe he will be solid backup, others were quick to poke fun at perhaps the least exciting addition they have made so far this summer.
