Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson scored one and assisted the other as Iceland beat Kosovo 2-0 on Monday night to secure their spot at the 2018 World Cup, and Toffees fans are hoping that their manager Ronald Koeman took note of his showing.
The club-record buy started in the number 10 position for his country despite often being played out wide by the Dutchman this season, and he showed some great skill on the edge of the penalty area in the first half to beat the defender before finishing well.
Despite his impressive form for Swansea City over the course of the last few campaigns, the 28-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Goodison Park so far and has just one goal and one assist in nine appearances in all competitions.
Everton supporters were quick to have their say on his performance via social media, and while told Koeman to “take a hint” from the position Sigurdsson had played in for his country, others want their boss to “reward him and play him in his right position”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Playing as a number 10, might I add

Can’t wait for @RonaldKoeman to start him on the wing at the weekend!

Oh, so thats what happens when you play him in the right position? Maybe we should put mirallas and lookman outwide instead.

Further proof in tonight’s performance that Gylfi needs to play in a classic #10 role, not on an Everton wing.

Hopefully it's the boost he needed to get his confidence back up to scratch
