Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin was ruled out taking part in the Merseyside derby on Friday, and was quick to tweet his disappointment at the news, saying he was “gutted”.

The Frenchman has been one of the Toffees’ best performers after joining the Merseyside club from Manchester United during the January transfer window, but will miss out on the huge clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

Ronald Koeman’s men have the opportunity to close the gap on their arch-rivals to three points with a win, but Schneiderlin won’t be a part of the squad after picking up a calf problem in the 4-0 thrashing of Hull City at Goodison Park before the international break.

Toffees supporters were quick to show the support for the absent 27-year-old star, while others suggested it could all be part of a big ploy and that he could still play.
