Everton bounced back from four straight defeats in all competition to beat Sunderland 3-0 in the third round of the EFL Cup at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, but Toffees fans weren’t impressed with the performance of midfielder Mo Besic.
Manager Ronald Koeman decided to make eight changes from the side that was beaten 4-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday for the visit of the Championship strugglers, with Besic one of those coming in to take his place in the middle of the park.
Despite constantly demanding the ball – which would have been pleasing to see for the Goodison faithful and Koeman – the 25-year-old struggled with his passing when he did have it and gave Michael Keane a particularly bad hospital pass in the early stages.
Everton supporters were quick to have their say on the Bosnia and Herzegovina international’s showing via social media, and while some said the midfielder is a “complete liability”, others joked that they would “rather have The Ox” following the former Arsenal man’s disappointing first start for Liverpool on Tuesday.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Made up with Vlasic me. Looks good in every way what I've seen so far. DCL got to play the next 3 home games up front. Besic is poor #efc🔵⚪️

Listening to the commentary and what I'm hearing does nothing to change my mind that Besic is a complete liability #EFC

Besic is dreadful #efc

Was going to count how many times besic passes to opposition tonight but run out of fingers & toes already and it's only half time 😂 #Efc
