According to reports in The Times, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has rejected the chance to stay at the club is because of his strained relationship with manager Ronald Koeman.

The 23-year-old had been expected to leave Goodison Park this summer after turning down the chance to extend his current contract, which is due to run out next summer, with the Merseyside outfit keen to cash in on him now rather than lose him for nothing in 2018.

However, The Times says the Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea target may be forced to remain with the Toffees after suffering a serious hamstring injury in training on Monday, which could keep him on the sidelines for three months.

The report adds that the England international confronted Koeman last season after the Dutchman publicly criticised his performances.

Everton supporters were quick to have their say on the rumour via social media, with the majority unimpressed at how Barkley is unable to take criticism, with some even labelling him as a "baby".
