Everton fans urge Rooney’s wife to instigate Merseyside return

Everton supporters have tried to encourage Wayne Rooney’s wife to convince him to return to Goodison Park in the summer.

Coleen Rooney was simply being a proud mother when she posted a video of the couple’s youngest son Kit toddling about in the garden with a football.

The Liverpool-born mum-of-three accompanied the clip with the caption, “starting early”, suggesting that the one-year-old could follow in his father’s footsteps.

Many Everton fans saw the Twitter post as an opportunity to urge Rooney to return to the blue half of Merseyside, where he came through the academy before joining Manchester United in 2004.

Earlier this month, The Independent reported that the 31-year-old would favour a return to Everton if he leaves United in the summer, and the Old Trafford club may even waive a transfer fee to make the move happen.

Rooney’s United career has dwindled significantly this season as he has started just nine Premier League games under manager Jose Mourinho.

Despite this, plenty of Everton fans would welcome him back with open arms, and some are trying to get his wife to push the transfer forward.
