Everton face Atalanta in their opening Europa League group game in Bergamo on Thursday night, and Toffees fans want Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be handed the striker’s role.

After starting the Merseyside outfit’s first two Premier League matches of the season and picking up assists in both matches, the 20-year-old has found himself on the substitutes’ bench for his side’s previous two top flight clashes against Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Sandro Ramirez preferred in the attacking positions.

However, the young centre-forward replaced the latter at half-time in Ronald Koeman’s side’s 3-0 defeat to Spurs on Saturday, and he will be pushing for a start in Italy with a tough-looking clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford to come on Sunday.

Everton supporters were quick to have their say on Calvert-Lewin ahead of the Atalanta fixture, with some saying they would 'despair if he doesn’t start up top'.
