Everton supporters pay tribute to long-serving defender

All being well, Leighton Baines will reach 400 appearances for Everton this season.

The experienced left-back is currently on 381 appearances for the Toffees, scoring 36 times since joining the Merseyside club from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2007.

Baines famously came close to leaving Everton for Manchester United when David Moyes took charge of the Red Devils, but the 30-time England international ultimately stayed on Merseyside.

It is not too difficult to understand why Baines is so popular at Everton, and the club’s supporters took the chance to hail the full-back on social media.

Earlier this week, Baines hinted that he will end his career at Goodison Park, and unsurprisingly, the 32-year-old received a host of praise from the Everton faithful.

With certain players, it is obvious to predict when the reaction is going to be positive on social media, and Baines is one of those who looks free from criticism.

That said, he did come extremely close to leaving for Man United in the summer of 2013.
