Mohamed Diame's goal in Newcastle United's late victory over Brighton was the talk of Twitter on Tuesday night due to the sheer audacity of it.

The 29-year-old cancelled out Glenn Murray's first-half penalty in the 81st minute and not long after, Ayoze Perez found a dramatic winner.

The result has put Newcastle back to the top of the Championship table, eight points ahead of the playoff places and two above Brighton.

Diame's goal was a memorable one. After Christian Atsu fluffed his volley, the ball fell to the Senegal international, who barely moved a muscle as it flicked off his boot and looped into the top corner.

He clearly did not know too much about it, or anything in fact, as he revealed to reporters after the game that his attempt was not deliberate.

Some football fans speculated that Diame did actually intend to score with his minimal touch, but it seems that they are clutching at straws.
