The PFA has announced its Premier League Team of the Year, and there is one notable omission.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld failed to make the grade, which has prompted anger from some fans on Twitter.

The Belgian has been a reliable man at the back for manager Mauricio Pochettino this season, but Chelsea pair Gary Cahill and David Luiz have taken the central defender spots in the league's best XI.

Chelsea and Tottenham currently occupy first and second in the top-flight table, and they have the most representatives in the Team of the Year.

As well as Cahill and Luiz, Blues' pair N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard have made the cut, while Spurs' quartet Danny Rose, Kyle Walker, Dele Alli and Harry Kane are also included.

Manchester United's David de Gea has been picked ahead of his fellow goalkeepers, while Sadio Mane of Liverpool gets the nod, as does Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.

As expected, there have been disagreements among fans over the selections, and many have been left scratching their heads over Alderweireld's absence.

Many believe that he is more deserving of a place than Cahill.
