Football supporters have responded to reports of a potential new waterfront stadium for Everton by mocking Romelu Lukaku’s contract situation.

The Liverpool Echo have reported that a deal to build a new football stadium at the Bramley-Moore docks site is being discussed between Peel and Everton.

Development director at Liverpool Waters for Peel, Lindsey Ashworth, told the publication:

“We're in quite healthy talks with Everton at the moment, so it's not finalised yet. But as Peel and as myself I would love to see a stadium on the waterfront.”

A new ground for the Toffees has been mooted for a while, as the club try to break into the Premier League top six and work their way towards bringing European football to the blue half of Merseyside on a regular basis.

One player who could be central to Everton’s improvement is Romelu Lukaku, but there are doubts over his long-term future after he reportedly rejected a £140,000-a-week contract.

The news came as a shock to some fans after the striker’s agent Mino Raiola reiterated numerous times that terms of the new deal were 99.9% agreed.

Football supporters were reminded of that when they heard the latest about the club’s plans for a new waterfront stadium.

Some feel that the deal is unlikely to come off, while others were happy at the stadium news.
