Fans not happy Jesse Lingard is earning more money than Dele Alli

Football fans have been left scratching their heads over the news that Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard is now earning more money than Tottenham Hotspur and England star Dele Alli.

The Red Devils announced on Thursday that Lingard has penned a new four-year contract at Old Trafford.

Sky Sports has reported that the deal triples the 24-year-old’s wages to around £100,000 a week, putting him among the top earners in the Premier League.

This news has caused a stir among football fans, with many questioning whether Lingard deserves such a huge pay packet.

This season, the attacker, who has been capped four times for England, has scored one goal and produced two assists in 17 Premier League appearances.

In contrast, 20-year-old Alli has netted 15 goals and made five others in 29 top-flight appearances for Tottenham, but NOW TV Sport has tweeted that he is earning £45,000 less than Lingard.

Plenty of football fans have taken to Twitter to express their confusion that Lingard is worthy of a better salary than some of the game’s top stars.
