Fans urge Liverpool not to offer Lovren a new contract

Earlier this week, the Liverpool Echo reported that the club are planning to offer a new deal to defender Dejan Lovren, and the fans are not happy.

The Merseyside outfit have been busy tying players down to new contracts, with Philippe Coutinho committing his long-term future to the club, while young defender Joe Gomez has also penned fresh terms.

The Liverpool Echo claims that midfield star Adam Lallana and Lovren are next on the list for the club’s hierarchy.

Lovren has had a difficult relationship with the fans after he failed to make an instant impact in defence when he signed from Southampton in 2014.

The Croatian has gone through spells of strong form, but he has struggled with consistency, and the defence continue to have problems, despite him now being a regular starter under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Lovren has formed a partnership with Joel Matip this season, but due to injuries and the 25-year-old’s recent dispute with FIFA, Ragnar Klavan has stepped in on occasion.

Despite Klopp appearing to be keen on extending Lovren’s deal, which currently expires in 2019, some fans are not so keen.
