FIFA to investigate Pogba’s £89m transfer to Manchester United, fans react

FIFA will open an investigation into the world-record transfer of Paul Pogba to Manchester United from Juventus, reports AFP.

The France midfielder became the most expensive player in football history last summer when he rejoined United for a staggering £89m.

The fee eclipsed the £85m that Real Madrid paid Tottenham Hotspur to sign Gareth Bale in 2013.

The Daily Mail recently published details from a new book Football Leaks: The Dirty Business of Football, which is due to be released in Germany this week.

It broke down the figures relating to Pogba’s transfer, and claimed that the 24-year-old is earning a basic salary of £8.61m, made up of a £165,588 weekly wage.

The book has revealed that an annual loyalty bonus of £3.78m will come into effect next season.

Interestingly, Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola is allegedly due to pocket just over £41m across the next five years for his role in the deal.

According to AFP, the world governing body intend to open an investigation into the transfer.

As expected, United fans have given their reaction to the news on Twitter, while rival supporters have taken the opportunity to poke fun at the Premier League giants.
