Howson joins Monk’s Middlesbrough, Leeds United fans react

There will be no fairytale return to Leeds United for Jonny Howson after he agreed to join Middlesbrough instead.

Some Leeds fans were hopeful that the midfielder would come back to Elland Road this summer, five years after leaving them.

However, he has instead decided to join fellow Championship club Middlesbrough from Norwich City.

Howson is yet to complete the move as he needs to undergo a medical, but he is expected to become a Boro player in due course.

The fact that Leeds’ former manager Garry Monk is the man to sign him at Boro rubs salt into the wound for Leeds fans.

There is no indication, though, that the Whites were in the running for his signature, which according to the Daily Mail has cost Middlesbrough £6m.

Howson developed his game at the Leeds academy when he joined in 1997, and went on to make his first-team debut in 2006.

In total, the midfielder made 185 appearances for Leeds, scoring 23 goals.
