Plenty of Leeds United fans were unhappy with Garry Monk after he decided to leave the club after just one season at the helm, but his colleague James Beattie has received a different reaction.

The former Southampton player joined Monk's coaching team at the start of last season following the ex-Swansea City man's appointment.

The 39-year-old was a popular figure at Elland Road as he helped improve striker Chris Wood, who ended the Championship campaign with 27 goals.

New head coach Thomas Christiansen has been working on bringing in his own backroom team, and as expected, Beattie has followed Monk out of the door.

He will now rejoin his colleague at Middlesbrough, but before embarking on his new role, Beattie penned a farewell note to the Leeds fans.

Rather than lambaste Beattie for leaving the club, many of the Whites' following expressed their gratitude on Twitter.

Some wished him luck at his new job at the Riverside, but their tunes will change when the two clubs go head to head in the Championship this season.
