Two years ago, a 24-year-old N’Golo Kante was playing his football for Caen, a Normandy based team who have often found themselves toward the bottom end of the French top tier.
Incredibly, this weekend, the Frenchman was awarded the Football Writers Association Player of the Season, which will sit nicely alongside his PFA Player’s Player of the year trophy, given to him last month.
The unassuming midfielder has enjoyed remarkable success since arriving in England in 2015. He played a major role in Leicester’s remarkable title winning campaign and quite rightly earned a £32 million move to Chelsea last summer.
Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, he has managed to improve even further and has undoubtedly been a key role in Chelsea’s inevitable Premier League crowning this year.
Despite his media-shy, introverted persona, Kante has managed to grab many headlines this year, along with overwhelming praise from some of the country’s most prominent football journalists.
Some football writers and pundits who endorsed Kante for the coveted award took to Twitter to heap further praise on the Frenchman…
FWA confirm it's a double Player Of The Year win for N'Golo Kante. Richly deserved recognition, for a quiet unassuming guy.

N'Golo Kante has been named the FWA Footballer of the Year. Right decision. He got my vote.

N'GOLO KANTE's dream season:
PFA Player of the Year
FWA Player of the Year
Despite being a defensive midfielder. Rarely happens in EPL
