Newcastle United's positive run in the Premier League has already ended following Sunday's defeat to Brighton.

Rafael Benitez's team had overcome their opening back-to-back defeats on their return to the division by winning three matches on the trot.

However, they were unable to keep that run going when they faced fellow promoted side Brighton at the Amex.

One goal separated the two teams, and it came from Tomer Hemed, who was caught up in controversy in the 89th minute when he appeared to stamp on DeAndre Yedlin's leg.

The incident was not spotted by the match officials and it remains unclear whether the striker will face retrospective action.

After the match, Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles took to Twitter to address the supporters.

The 23-year-old expressed his sadness in the result, but has decided to remain optimistic.

Benitez and his men will hope to get back on track on Sunday, but they face a tough task when they take on Liverpool at St James' Park.
