Leeds United have announced that Conor Shaughnessy has put pen to paper on a new contract, and the fans could not be happier.
The 21-year-old has had a stellar year at Elland Road after initially joining the club’s development side when he was released by Reading in 2016.
Manager Thomas Christiansen, who replaced Garry Monk in the summer, has been so impressed with the Irishman that he has promoted the player to the senior squad.
This season, Shaughnessy has made three appearances in the Championship, in two of which he was named in the first XI.
The former Reading man has also started all three of Leeds’ Carabao Cup matches, the most recent of which was won by the Whites in a penalty shootout against Premier League club Burnley.
Shaughnessy played as a central midfielder at the Madejski Stadium, but Christiansen has opted to use him at the back.
Today, the Whites announced that the player has been rewarded with a long-term contract, meaning that he is now tied to the club until 2021.
