Leeds United fans react as defender is charged by the FA for an alleged stamp

Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has been charged by the FA following an alleged stamp on the head of Reading loanee Reece Oxford during the two sides’ clash at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

The 25-year-old has been a regular in the Whites’ defence in recent weeks with Pontus Jansson struggling with injury, but he could now face a similar punishment to the five-match ban that Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings suffered following a similar incident with Zlatan Ibrahimovic – if he is found guilty.

The centre-back has until 6pm on Tuesday to answer the charge, and three former elite referees will decide on what will happen next if he fails to appeal.

Leeds supporters were quick to have their say on the decision via social media, with some of them angry that the Royals’ Tyler Blackett wasn’t punished for an incident with Chris Wood during the sam match, but others were pleased that Jansson would now make a return to the starting line-up.
