Leeds United advanced through to the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night following a comfortable 5-1 home win against Newport County, but the Elland Road faithful were not impressed with goalkeeper Rob Green.
Despite being the first-choice stopper under the leadership of Garry Monk last season, the former England international has lost his place to new boy Felix Wiedwald this term, and the match against the Exiles on Tuesday was his first start of the campaign.
While Wiedwald hasn’t conceded in his last three Championship appearances, Green was beaten in the 33rd minute by Joss Labadie’s speculative 25-yard shot – which seemed to hit him and then bounce over him – to give the League Two outfit the lead.
Leeds supporters were quick to have their say on the showing of the 37-year-old via social media, and for many it was a clear indication that the mistake is why he is now the second-choice goalkeeper.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Nice to see Rob Green doing Rob Green things last night. #lufc

Oh no, Rob Green has only gone and done a Rob Green #LUFC

When Green's in net, you quickly see the reasoning behind getting Wiedwald. Wiedwald's distribution is lightning fast in comparison. #lufc

Can we stop the Green, Felix nonsense now? 1 comes in and makes a boo boo, the other has gone 270 minutes in the EFL without conceding #lufc

Deflection or not Green should keep it out IMO #LUFC

Rob Green reality check. Made some fine saves last season, deserved credit, but always been too prone to a major error. Second choice. #lufc

This is why Green can't be number 1 if we wanna challenge. Makes to many mistakes like that #lufc
