Leeds United have had a busy summer transfer window, recruiting 13 players so far.
The latest figure to be linked to Elland Road is Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.
The forward was a pivotal part of the Magpies’ successful promotion bid in the Championship last season, scoring 23 goals.
However, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie tweeted on Tuesday that Rafael Benitez would consider selling Gayle before Thursday’s transfer deadline as long as a replacement is found.
The Shields Gazette reports that Leeds have enquired about a possible deal for the 27-year-old, but a formal bid has not yet been lodged.
Gayle, who was not part of the squad for last weekend’s 3-0 win over West Ham United, is said to be rated at around £20m by the North-East outfit.
Leeds recently sold one of their strikers, Chris Wood, who joined Burnley last week, leaving behind a 27-goal tally from last season.
After reports emerged of the Whites’ interest in Gayle, fans delivered their verdicts on Twitter.
It's unlikely but Dwight Gayle would be a massive signing, prob be the difference between top 6 and top 2! #lufc

Dwight Gayle would be an excellent signing. I'm still surprised Palace sold him. An out and out goalscorer #LUFC
