Liverpool slipped down to fourth in the Premier League standings as Manchester City beat Leicester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The Reds’ hopes of finishing in the top four have come under threat in recent weeks after they have taken just four points from the last nine available, and with Arsenal finding form they are just four points above the Gunners who face Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday evening.

City are one of their other rivals, and despite taking an early two-goal lead through David Silva and a penalty from Gabriel Jesus, Pep Guardiola’s men were pegged back by a fine finish from Shinji Okazaki.

However, the pivotal moment of the match came in the second half when Riyad Mahrez’s own spot-kick hit both of his feet before going into the net, meaning it was correctly disallowed.

Liverpool supporters were quick to have their say on the incident, and some believe it could prove to be a pivotal moment in the race for the Champions League.
