According to reports in Italy, Manchester United are interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Emre Can, who will be out of contract at the end of this season.

The 23-year-old, who has also been linked with Juventus, is understood to be stalling on a new deal at Anfield as he looks for certain assurances.

The midfielder has started five of Liverpool's seven Premier League matches this season, while he has also featured twice in the Champions League.

It is thought that Liverpool are still confident of signing Can to a new deal, but as it stands, his future is very much up in the air.

Can, who is valued at £13.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, has developed into a key player for the German national team, and he was once again in their XI for Sunday's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan.

Liverpool took to Twitter to highlight the fact that Can was present in the Germany XI, and it led to a number of Reds supporters airing their views on his contract situation.

The thought of Can moving from Liverpool to United is not something that the club's fans want to consider.
