With Liverpool hosting Everton on Saturday, hostilities are renewed in one of the fiercest games in the English footballing calendar as the Merseyside derby kicks off the weekend's action.

While so much has happened at both clubs since the last meeting between the two little over a year ago now, it seems the memories of football fans aren't quite as short as it sometimes may seem. During the last time the pair locked horns at Anfield, Toffees star Ramiro Funes Mori was sent off for a bad challenge on Reds striker Divock Origi.

As the Argentine walked off the pitch following his dismissal, he seemingly played up to the away support by pointing to the club's crest on his shirt, a gesture slated by Kop legend Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports after the game.

So, it's fair to say Liverpool fans online haven't shown too much sympathy to the 26-year-old following Everton's statement, revealing Funes Mori was unlikely to play again this season after picking an injury on international duty.

Having said that, here's a look at how Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter.
