Liverpool and Everton have a fierce rivalry, which unfortunately means that it can turn ugly at times.

On this occasion, the supporters of the red half of Merseyside have revelled in the news that Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori has suffered an injury that could keep him out of action for a long period of time.

The Times journalist Paul Joyce took to Twitter to report that Funes Mori has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

The problem is so bad that manager Ronald Koeman could jump back into the market to add an eighth player to his summer spree, which has taken the club close to £100m.

It is very disappointing news for Everton and their fans, but their rivals Liverpool seem to be happy about it.

Many are seeing it as revenge for the horror tackle Funes Mori made on Reds striker Divock Origi during the Toffees' 4-0 defeat at Anfield in April of the 2015-16 season.

The defender caused ankle ligament damage when he committed a studs-up challenge on Origi and was issued with a straight red card.

Many Liverpool fans had that incident in their mind when they reacted to the news of Funes Mori's injury.
