The Premier League confirmed on Thursday that the summer transfer window will close before the start of the 2018/19 season after the majority of clubs voted in favour of the change.
BBC Football reported that 14 sides wanted the move with just five teams – Manchester United, Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Swansea City and Watford – voting against it and Burnley deciding to abstain.
It will come as little surprise that Liverpool were in favour of the change considering the fact that Philippe Coutinho handed in a transfer request just before the start of this season when Barcelona showed an interest in the Brazilian.
The situation was only concluded when the window slammed shut, with Coutinho now set to return to first team action.
Liverpool supporters were quick to have their say on the news via social media, and they were divided with their opinions. While some say the move is “wrong”, others believe it is “common sense at last”.
