Liverpool were knocked out of the EFL Cup following a 2-0 third round defeat against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night, and Reds fans were far from impressed with the performance of captain Jordan Henderson.
The skipper returned to the starting line-up against the Foxes having found himself on the substitutes’ bench for the 1-1 draw against Burnley at Anfield on Saturday, but he failed to inspire his team to return to winning ways in the east Midlands.
The 27-year-old has come under criticism from the Anfield faithful for some below-par performances this season, and he once again struggled in the defensive midfield role he was given against Craig Shakespeare’s men as the visitors conceded twice.
Liverpool supporters were quick to have their say on his showing via social media, and while some said he is “not good enough to start”, others went further and believe he should be “shown the exit door first”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Jordan Henderson. Captain. Leader. Joke. #lfc

Henderson is no Liverpool captain. I'm sorry if you do not like that. Average player. No leader #lfc

Henderson is not good enough to be in the lineup, let alone captain. #LFC

Jordan Henderson is absolutely spineless, shouldn’t be captain of this club #LFC

Henderson is worst than any of our defenders. He needs to be shown the exit door first. Never of #lfc standard
