James Milner is known as the type of footballer who will do the job asked of him without any complaints.

For the majority of his career, the former England international has played on the wing, and last season at Liverpool spent the entire campaign filling the left-back role.

Milner has often admitted that his preferred position is the centre of midfield, and he got his wish to play in said area for Tuesday evening's Champions League group match against Maribor in Slovenia.

The 31-year-old has been used sparingly by manager Jurgen Klopp this season having started just two Premier League games.

However, Milner was handed a role in midfield over captain Jordan Henderson and put in an influential display as Liverpool broke records.

The Merseyside club secured a 7-0 victory - the biggest away win from an English club in European Cup history.

In addition, it was the largest scoreline recorded by Klopp since taking over Liverpool in October 2015, and they were the only team to keep a clean sheet on the night.

It was a far cry from the Reds' recent form, which has seen them pick up just one victory in eight matches in all competitions.

Plenty of Liverpool fans think that Milner's performance earns him a starting spot for this weekend's league match against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
