In the standout fixture of the Premier League weekend, Liverpool play host to Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday, and Reds fans want Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to start in Sadio Mane’s absence despite the fact he has endured a tough time following his summer move from Arsenal.
The 24-year-old would have hoped to have been a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp, but he has had to make do with a place on the substitutes’ bench in both the Premier League and Champions League so far.
Following a disappointing performance when he did start against Leicester in the EFL Cup, and a below-par showing for England during the international break, he could finally get his top flight opportunity against the Red Devils with Mane out for six weeks after picking up a hamstring injury playing for Senegal.
Liverpool supporters have been having their say on the Ox via social media, and while some said they “really hope he starts”, others say it is ‘time for him to step up’.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
I will play Ox instead of Hendo & give d armband 2 Coutinho, that team will trouble d scums all day long #LFC

Gotta feeling Ox will start to throw Mourinho a wobbler. On his Day he can be brutal with pace power #LFC

Klopp likely to play Coutinho wide in Mane’s absence but I prefer him deeper & central. I’d give Ox an opportunity or move Firmino #LFC

#LFC With Mane out for 6 weeks, time for the OX to step up, otherwise why on earth did we buy him?

I’d be happy with either tbh mate, would like to see Ox get a run out and make a point, on the other hand Bobby is always dangerous
