Liverpool fans want Under-23s to replace first team

It has been a frustrating time for Liverpool over the past few days following their 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

The mood has changed completely from the middle of last week when the Reds were celebrating a thumping 7-0 triumph over Maribor in the Champions League.

The attacking side of Liverpool’s game is not the problem given that they currently have Philippe Coutinho, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino to call upon.

It is the defensive frailties that are causing an issue – something that has plagued the team for the last few seasons.

Liverpool have conceded 16 goals in just nine Premier League matches this season, and 15 of those came when Jurgen Klopp’s team were on the road.

In contrast, the club’s Under-23s side are flying high at the top of Premier League 2 having won seven of their eight fixtures, the most recent of which was a 3-1 victory over Manchester United, who reside at the bottom of the standings.

After Liverpool’s Twitter page posted Monday night’s result, the fans decided that the youngsters should be selected for the first team ahead of Klopp’s current crop of players.
