Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to bring in new defenders rather than spend big on Monaco star Kylian Mbappe.

A report in The Telegraph has emerged claiming that the Merseyside outfit are ready to splash the cash for the in-demand Frenchman.

Arsenal are also thought to be interested in the 18-year-old, who scored 26 goals in all competitions for Monaco last season, but the publication states that Real Madrid are the favourites to land his signature.

It would be a huge shock if Liverpool edged ahead of their competitors to sign Mbappe, largely because they do not possess the same financial clout.

However, The Telegraph claims that the youngster's priority is developing his game rather than taking on the pressure of a world-beater.

For many Liverpool fans, though, they would prefer the club to focus on strengthening the defence.

The club were forced to apologise and withdraw their interest from Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk after being accused of tapping up, but The Times journalist Jonathan Northcroft recently told The Anfield Wrap that the deal might not be dead.

Liverpool have already boosted their attacking options with the signing of Mohamed Salah from Roma, and the fans are unsure about the rumoured pursuit of Mbappe.
