Liverpool legend likens Lallana to Barcelona great Iniesta, fans react

Liverpool legend Jan Molby has raised a few eyebrows by likening Adam Lallana to one of Barcelona’s greatest ever players Andres Iniesta.

The England international has been in fine form under manager Jurgen Klopp this season having scored seven goals and as many assists.

It is clear that Lallana is now one of the first names on the teamsheet after cementing himself into an attacking midfield role.

Molby has been so impressed by the 28-year-old’s form that he has drawn comparisons with Spanish maestro Iniesta. He told the club’s official website:

“What Adam Lallana is, and maybe some people won’t see this, is he’s a playmaker.

“He’s not a playmaker who sits back and dictates play; he’s a bit like Iniesta, he’s that 15 yards further forward where he dictates the direction and the tempo of the play.

“He’s been very impressive, he’s been very, very important – so important that I make him our key player.”

The Dane may feel that Lallana possesses similar qualities to Iniesta, but the Liverpool star certainly does not have the same trophy cabinet.

The 32-year-old, who has spent his entire career at the Catalan club, has won 29 trophies, including eight La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns.

Fans took to Twitter to give their views on Molby’s comparison, with many mocking the former midfielder’s comments.
