Lucas Leiva has made 344 appearances for Liverpool since joining the Merseyside outfit from Gremio in July 2007.

The Brazilian midfielder featured in 24 Premier League matches for the Reds during the 2016-17 season, but only half of those were starts as head coach Jurgen Klopp overlooked the experienced campaigner on a number of occasions.

At the age of 30, Lucas should still have a lot of football in his legs, but it would be fair to say that the Brazilian divided opinion among the Liverpool supporters last season after an indifferent campaign.

There were suggestions that Lucas could leave Anfield this summer, but he has joined up with the squad for pre-season, and Klopp looks ready to utilise his experience once again as Liverpool prepare for a return to the Champions League next season.

A post on Liverpool's official Twitter account at the weekend featured a quote from Lucas on pre-season, and the response section suggested that the supporters are still split on whether the midfielder should remain at Anfield.
