According to reports in The Times, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to target a move for Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale, who is rated at £72m according to Transfermarkt, if the Welshman is left out of the starting line-up for their Super Cup clash against the Red Devils in Skopje on Tuesday.

The Times says that the 28-year-old’s future at the Bernabeu has been brought into doubt as the Champions League holders continue to pursue Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe – which would mean that one of Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo would need to make way – while Zinedine Zidane is also considering starting Marcos Asensio ahead of the Wales international in Macedonia.

Mourinho said: “If he’s not in the club’s plans I would be waiting for him on the other side and be fighting with the other coaches who would like to have him.”

Man United supporters were quick to have their say on the latest rumour via social media, and they were divided on a potential deal for Bale.

While some believe that he would be a “crazy” signing and that the club must make it happen, others are less hopeful on their chances of getting him before the window slams shut at the end of the month.
