Manchester United announced on Friday that Antonio Valencia had signed a new deal that would keep him at Old Trafford until 2019.

The Ecuador international has become a key senior player for the Red Devils in recent seasons and has established himself as the first choice right-back under Jose Mourinho.

The 31-year-old captained his side to Europa League victory on Wednesday night with Wayne Rooney only named on the substitutes’ bench, and if he stays with the club until the end of his contract he will have reached a milestone of 10 years with the Red Devils.

Man United supporters were quick to have their say on the news via social media, and they were understandably delighted at the news about Valencia, who has played 43 matches in all competitions this season.

While many claimed he is the best right-back in the Premier League – with some even saying in the world – others were keen for him to be named as the permanent United skipper.
