According to De Morgen, Manchester United will make a personal check on Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker when the 22-year-old represents his club in their opening league game against Antwerp on Friday night.

Man United boss Jose Mourinho is in the market for a new defensive midfielder this summer, and the Portuguese has been strongly linked with a move for Chelsea's Nemanja Matic.

That deal could reach upwards of £45m, however, and it is reported that Man United could switch their attention to Belgian international Dendoncker, who would provide a cheaper and younger option.

The highly-rated midfielder actually scored against the 20-time English champions in the Europa League last season, while he made 56 appearances in all competitions for Anderlecht during the 2016-17 campaign.

Suggestions that the Red Devils could move for Dendoncker has gathered pace over the last 24 hours, and it would be fair to say that the club's supporters are excited about the prospect of the Belgian playing alongside the likes of Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.
