Last weekend, it was reported that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was ready to drop his interest in AS Monaco attacker to pursue a deal for Manchester United's Anthony Martial.

Martial scored 17 times for Man United during the 2015-16 campaign after arriving from Monaco, but the 21-year-old only managed eight goals last season after struggling for consistency under the stewardship of Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho.

Indeed, the France international started fewer than half of Man United's 38 Premier League fixtures last term, and it had been suggested that Martial is ready to seek pastures new this summer after struggling to settle in Manchester.

Such talk has seemingly now been put to bed by the player himself, however, who took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to insist that 'the rumours are false'.

There is no question that Martial remains a popular figure at Old Trafford, whilst Mourinho is believed to be a big admirer of the attacker's potential despite a difficult 2016-17 season.

Arsenal, unfortunately for them, seem to have been dealt another blow in the transfer market.
