When Manchester United signed England's Luke Shaw from Southampton in the summer of 2014, it was widely thought that the Red Devils were acquiring a player that would nail-down the left-back position for his club and county over the last 10 years. That still might be the case, but it would be fair to say that things have not gone smoothly for Shaw over the last couple of years. The defender made 20 appearances during his first season at Old Trafford, but has made just a further 27 appearances since, and only started nine Premier League games last term.It appeared that Shaw was heading for the Man United exit after a falling-out with head coach Jose Mourinho, but the England international then returned to the first team, before picking up a season-ending injury in April. It is currently unclear whether Shaw will be fit for the start of pre-season after suffering ligament damage to his foot, and injuries have really cost the defender the chance of a serious run in the first team.It is now more than three years since Shaw arrived at Man United, and despite his troubles, the club's supporters are still fully behind the former Southampton youngster.
