When Manchester United’s official Twitter account posted a memory from the club’s treble-winning 1998-99 campaign on Friday afternoon, there was always to be a mixed reaction from the supporters.
From beating Juventus in the semi-finals of the Champions League, Man United have struggled in recent seasons, with the Red Devils currently battling to return to the top of the English game, let alone European football.
“An incredible night in Turin”, was the message posted on the club’s Twitter account, with captain Roy Keane inspiring Man United to a 3-2 victory over the Italian giants despite the Republic of Ireland international picking up a yellow card that ruled him out of the final.
Fast forward to the present day, and Man United are currently completing in the Europa League. On Thursday night, Jose Mourinho’s side booked their spot in the semi-finals of Europe’s second competition after recording a 3-2 aggregate victory over Anderlecht.
There were some positive reactions to the official club tweet, although the majority of Man United supporters did not warm to the memory due to the team’s struggles in recent seasons.
