It was confirmed on Thursday that the summer transfer window will shut before the start of the 2018/19 season after 14 Premier League clubs voted in favour of the change.
The likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Southampton were particularly affected this summer when it came to unsettled players, with Philippe Coutinho and Virgil van Dijk handing in transfer requests and being unavailable for their clubs at the start of the campaign.
According to BBC Football only five teams – Manchester United, Manchester City, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Watford – were against the change, while Burnley decided not to have their say.
Despite getting their business done early this summer the Red Devils were in the minority that wanted things to stay the way they are, and that may be because other European clubs could still target their players unless their rules also change.
Manchester United supporters were quick to have their say on the decision via social media, with some labelling the move as a “big mistake” and a “disgrace”, but some do also believe that it could prove to be an “excellent move”.

I think the Premier league are making a big mistake by closing the window before the season starts. Could be a bug problem IMO

Fail to see how prem transfer window closing early is any benefit. The coutinho saga would still of happened. Needs to be Europe wide.

I THINK the new transfer window makes sense. Only time will tell but it will be nice to see all deals done quickly & not dragged out #MUFC

New transfer window rules are a disgrace and will only mean more players get tapped up …. its a joke

Premier League transfer window closing before the season starts is naive. European clubs will pick our teams apart during August

Unpopular opinion but I think closing the transfer window before the season starts is an excellent move and long overdue.
