Manchester United’s return to the Champions League got off to a fine start as they were comfortable 3-0 winners against FC Basel at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, and Red Devils fans were particularly impressed with the performance of Ashley Young.

The 32-year-old was handed his first start of the season for the club at right-back after recovering from injury and he made an instant impact when his fine cross was headed home by substitute Marouane Fellaini to give the Red Devils the lead at the break.

Second-half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford sealed a comfortable win for the hosts, with Young impressing at both ends of the pitch because of his defensive abilities and the quality of his crossing from an attacking point of view.

Man United supporters were quick to have their say on Young’s showing via social media, and many believe that he should start at left-back against Everton on Sunday so he can continue to produce some fine crosses for the likes of Fellaini and Lukaku.
