Man United fans tip Rashford to emulate Rooney

On Sunday afternoon, it was confirmed that Wayne Rooney had left Manchester United to rejoin former club Everton on a two-year contract.

It would be fair to say that Rooney had a difficult relationship with sections of the Man United support during his time at Old Trafford, but the 31-year-old leaves the Red Devils as their all-time leading goalscorer with 253 goals.

Like a number of Man United players, Marcus Rashford took to Twitter to pay tribute to Rooney, who has moved on this summer after struggling for regular football under Jose Mourinho last season.

At 19, Rashford’s career is only just starting, but the teenager has already made 71 first-team appearances for Man United, managing 19 goals in the process.

It is going to take some effort for Rashford to match or indeed break Rooney’s goalscoring record, but there is no question that Man United supporters believe that the young Englishman has the potential to emulate what Rooney achieved at the Theatre of Dreams.
