Manchester United fans beg Pogba to bring Griezmann to Old Trafford

Manchester United fans are clinging on to some hope that they will land Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this summer.

The club have been linked to the France international for months now, with widespread reports claiming that the forward was Jose Mourinho’s top target.

However, after Atletico’s transfer ban was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Thursday, there are doubts that a deal will be done.

The Spanish club were punished by FIFA for the illegal signing of underage players, and the ban means that they will be unable to register new signings until January 2018.

The transfer suspension does not affect Griezmann’s right to leave if United meet his £87m release clause, but he will be under pressure by the club to stay given that they cannot replace him until next year.

The attacker hinted that he will remain at Atletico when he tweeted: “Now more than ever.”

Numerous media outlets, including BBC Sport, state that United have cooled their interest in Griezmann and are now focused on prioritising an out-and-out striker rather than a number 10 because of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury woes.

United fans, though, are hopeful that Paul Pogba can steer Griezmann to Old Trafford due to the friendship that they have formed in the France camp.

Supporters leapt onto Pogba’s Twitter page after he shared an Instagram picture of himself training with Griezmann, and he added an interesting caption.

Toujours av mon gars, angry mode, prêt pour demain.???????? The face tho ???? @equipedefrance #heretocreate @antogriezmann
