Manchester United stretched their unbeaten run to eight matches in all competitions on Saturday afternoon when they claimed a narrow victory over Southampton in the Premier League.

Romelu Lukaku was the difference at St Mary's when he nabbed his sixth top-flight goal for the Red Devils in the 20th minute of the match.

It was not the most attractive of performances from Jose Mourinho's team, particularly in the second half when they became more defensive in a bid to keep out their opponents.

The fans were, as expected, delighted with the result, but a large number were unhappy with Mourinho's decision not to introduce Anthony Martial into the game.

The French attacker was named among the substitutes and many supporters thought that he would be the obvious replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan when the Armenian was taken off.

However, rather than bring on Martial, who has scored four goals in all competitions this season, Mourinho opted for centre-back Chris Smalling in the 74th minute of the encounter.

Fans have been left baffled as they felt that the forward would have added to United's lead.
