Marcos Rojo has not always been a favourite among the Manchester United following.

The Argentine signed for the Red Devils from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 and experienced spells of inconsistency.

Last season ended in disappointment for the 27-year-old as he suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage during a quarter-final win over Anderlecht in April.

Manager Jose Mourinho has experienced plenty of injuries in the defensive areas of the field, but it seems that Rojo is edging closer to a return.

The former Spartak Moscow player was a surprise inclusion in the travelling squad to Lisbon ahead of Wednesday's Champions League group match against Benfica.

However, Mourinho has since confirmed that Rojo is unlikely to feature until a fortnight's time.

The Portuguese coach told MUTV:

"Rojo is not coming to play but he is coming with the team to train today with the group. Tomorrow, individually, but he's coming [back]. I would say, probably in two weeks, Marcos is ready to play."

After hearing the latest news on the defender's injury, United fans tweeted their joy that it may not be long before Rojo returns to competitive action.

The Red Devils are currently unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions.
